A product page changes its weight label after a market switch, yet the number stays unchanged. Is that an intended local product specification, a display preference, or a conversion defect? For authorized regional website testing, keep those questions separate before changing a residential proxy. This guide provides a synthetic acceptance procedure; it does not claim measured 98IP performance or describe a completed customer test.

1. Agree what is allowed to change
Ask the product-data owner for a fixture containing product ID, variant, specification version, measurement type, numeric value and source unit. Distinguish item weight from shipping weight and product dimensions from package dimensions. A market may sell another variant; different physical quantities are not automatically a conversion failure.
Define the target unit, rounding rule, displayed precision and acceptable numeric tolerance independently of the page code. Store an owner-reviewed expected value for each case. Do not generate the expected result by calling the same conversion function under test. Keep the original quantity and unit together throughout the comparison.
2. Build a small controlled matrix
- Choose one synthetic product with unequal length, width and height so an axis swap is visible. Add one weight fixture, one missing measurement and a value near the agreed rounding boundary.
- On an approved baseline, fix product variant, account state, catalog version, browser and session. Record locale, selected market and explicit unit preference separately.
- Change only the unit preference. Compare the target value and label with the independent fixture, then switch back and confirm the original canonical quantity is intact.
- Restore the original unit and change only the locale. Check separators, spacing and unit wording against the owner's formatting contract; do not presume that language alone must change the measurement system.
- Repeat the same cases through one approved regional proxy route with a fixed attempt budget. Verify actual egress and hold the route stable during each pair. Compare a market switch separately, checking whether product or specification identity changed.
If a direct baseline is not permitted, document its absence. A regional exit does not establish shipping destination, language preference or the application's selected market. Treat any disagreement between these inputs as an explicit test condition, not proof that the proxy failed.
3. Observe the conversion boundary
For an owned application, correlate the source quantity and unit returned by the API, the value after conversion, the rounded display value, and the final visible label. Keep dimensions named rather than comparing an unlabeled list of three numbers. If the page receives already-converted data, identify that boundary instead of converting it a second time.
Intl.NumberFormat can format a supplied numeric value with a specified unit and locale. Selecting a unit label does not tell it the source unit or perform your application's physical conversion. Perform the owner-approved conversion before formatting; inspect the actual runtime options when investigating precision. Preserve the unrounded canonical quantity for subsequent switches rather than parsing a localized display string back into storage.
A screenshot shows presentation but cannot prove the underlying quantity. Save the fixture version, selected controls and non-secret structured values alongside it. If receiver or application state is unavailable on a third-party target, report the boundary as unobserved and limit the conclusion accordingly.
4. Classify failures before repairing them
- Label changes but the value violates the expected conversion: inspect a label-only update or a skipped transformation. An unchanged value is not itself conclusive if the fixture happens to round to the same display.
- Value is transformed twice: trace whether both API and client convert the same field. Correct ownership at that boundary rather than compensating with a second inverse conversion.
- Quantity is correct but separators or unit wording differ: investigate locale formatting independently. Do not strip punctuation and assume the remaining digits are a portable number.
- Length and width exchange places: check named-field mapping and layout order, using unequal fixture dimensions.
- Returning to the original unit drifts: check repeated conversion of rounded display values. Recompute from canonical data rather than the previous display.
- A missing measurement becomes zero: preserve the owner's missing-value state. Zero and unknown have different meanings.
On an owned site, make the narrow repair and rerun the original fixture, rounding case, missing value and switch-back case. Check a second authorized market to expose cached unit preferences or stale product data. Do not change third-party values, bypass regional restrictions or infer legal labeling compliance from this functional check.
5. Use 98IP when the route is the variable
If acceptance requires observing an authorized regional deployment, review the 98IP residential proxy product page and use the supported settings in the configuration documentation and your account. Record region, actual egress and session policy, then hold them constant while changing one application setting.
A proxy provides a network observation path; it does not convert measurements, select the right product variant or guarantee local formatting. An ordinary non-intercepting HTTPS proxy cannot edit encrypted product data. Limit requests and traffic, check account usage, and keep credentials and real customer records out of evidence. No throughput, compatibility or billing outcome is promised here.
6. Acceptance checklist and questions
- Product, variant, specification version and measurement type match the owner-reviewed fixture.
- Canonical number and source unit remain paired; expected conversion and tolerance are independent.
- Unit-only, locale-only and market-change cases are separate, with actual egress recorded.
- Converted value, rounded display and visible unit agree; named dimensions are not swapped.
- Missing data stays distinct from zero, and switching back introduces no accumulated display rounding.
- Evidence uses synthetic or permitted data and states any unobserved boundary.
Does changing the browser language require a different unit? Only if the product contract says so. Unit preference, language and market are separate inputs.
Does a successful page load prove conversion accuracy? No. Compare value, unit and product identity with the independent fixture; HTTP success is only transport evidence.
Can regional research merge different measurements automatically? Keep the original value, unit, measurement type and provenance first. Normalize only under an approved analytical rule, preserving uncertainty rather than treating package weight as item weight.
